FILM + TV

1.

I pull my family into re-enacting scenes with me from some of my favorite films, including "Poetic Justice." "Love Jones," "Crooklyn," "Boomerang," and eventually "You've Got Mail." These are some of my top favorite movies of all time and I make it a point to incorporate lines from each of these and others at least five times a week.

My appreciation for the normalization of Black professionals in "Boomerang" was beautifully captured by the costume designer, whom I also had the luxury of working with on the 2023 film "The Color Purple," Francine Jamison Tanchuck. I also gravitated towards the many quotables, the dense vocabulary like "virile" and "onus," and the comedic timing of an all star cast. Bonus acknowledgment: the Howard University (my alma mater!) sweatshirt Marcus wears during the gym scene with Tyler and Gerard. *wink* Throw in the brilliant song placement of "I'd Die Without You" by P.M. Dawn that drops right when the Empire State Building lights up and the three male best friends hug it out on the rooftop of Tyler's penthouse. *insert chef's kiss*

Honorable mention: my father used to bring home comedy specials like "Raw" and Delirious" by Eddie Murphy and specials featuring Robin Harris, etc., action films and documentaries about nature. This has added to my varied film/tv aesthetic.

2.

Since I was a kid, I had always seen movie sets around California. I wanted to act as a child and my mother took me to a few auditions. Most of them wanted money + appeared to be scams, yet the desire to be a part of the industry and in front of the camera has never left me.

3.

I moved to Atlanta in 2011 and studied at SCAD Atlanta and abroad in Lacoste, France in 2013. I took an Improv class and a photography course, which satisfied my visual art sensation, including working with other film/acting/photography students. It re-opened my unspoken film passion portal.

4.

Georgia Department of Labor and IATSE 479 (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), collaborated to provide a program created by A.B. Cooper where adults could be introduced into the film industry by interning. I happened upon this opportunity by "accident"/divine ordinance at the end of 2015.

5.

After training in March/April of 2016, I was placed on my first job as Office PA (Production Assistant) on "The Quad" season 1. Interns were expected to seek our own jobs from that point on, yet every time I was transitioning from show to show, department heads sought me out and brought me onto the shows they were working on.

6.

I worked in Locations as a PA and Costumes on and off for about 2 years, joined the IATSE 479 union as a Costumer in 2017, and worked exclusively in Costumes since. In Costumes, I've worked as a Costumes PA, Set and Background Costumer, Truck Costumer, Supervisor, Key Costumer, Office Costumer and Designer.

Fun NOTE: I would absolutely LOVE to work with Joie Lee and Angela Nissel on writing a film or series.   /

Barbie Singer FILM PAGE

Throughout the years, I've wondered what I meant. A Barbie Singer is someone who commands the audience she is engaged with, she's talented, she is expressive, courageous, stylish and has a voice (both speaking and singing) that captivates others. I always saw my collection of brown Barbies as capable of doing whatever they wanted, because, well, I gave them many different roles to fulfill. I played out my fantasies of who I could be through them and I always knew my dreams were possible.

I grew up dancing in local performances, occasional competitions, school talent shows at every grade, dance studio recitals, church praise dance solos and groups, singing in gospel choirs, performing + reciting poems and speeches from a very young age, giving sermons as a youth leader, walking in fashion shows, acting in plays, including playing Frenchie in "Grease," and playing basketball and volleyball.

When I was about six years old, my big sister, Jayme, was a part of the singer, Brandy's/Brandy's father's choir in Los Angeles. After attending her rehearsals, I would go home and play my favorite songs from said rehearsals on my sister's keyboard from memory. I have taken two keyboard classes: one in 10th grade and one in my third year of college, yet reading music does not feel as second nature as playing by ear.

In 2017, I was invited to coach for the Otis Music Camp in Macon, Georgia, conducted by the Otis Redding family. My sister had been a head coach and coordinator for several years and when it was discovered that I was in production, the team invited me to assist with stage production. I wound up assisting with a little bit of song writing, stage presence, branding (creating a cohesive and intentional look with bandmates), steaming and prepping attire pre-show, helping with hair and makeup, making up and teaching choreography for the campers to perform, co-writing skits for campers to perform, and conceptualizing and creating stage props for performances.

My latest stage work is as Narrator of "La Femme Noire," a Black female curated program where creator Jayme Alilaw, Soprano, sings songs of Black female composers and writers; co-performers who are also Black women. The script highlights the contributions of Black women to the arts, namely to Opera, such as Leontyne Price and Marian Anderson. Ultimately, it is an ode to Black Girl Magic and celebrating our essence where we are often ignored and actively excluded.

/   Fun fact: I was selected to lead the prayer during a church service in Chicago, Illinois right before Dr. Maya Angelou was ushered onto the stage to speak. I sat on and shared a stage with Dr. Maya Angelou. Unfortunately, I don't have documentation of this occurrence, at the moment.    /

I performed in my school showcases since the age of 5/6 every single year. If I wasn't dancing at school, I was dancing at church, throughout the town, in parades, at competitions, or dance studio recitals.

Though basketball wasn't a performing arts, it was something I took great pleasure in and allowed me to expand my confidence on stage.
